Scripture Union Daily Guide 26th July 2024 Outline:
This passage reflects an important truth that Christians should not forget, namely, that God takes care of our tomorrow. In order to help His people preserve the health of the soil for future produce, God instructed them to allow the pasture land to be left fallow for one year after every six years of cultivation. He had earlier (Genesis 2:2,3) instituted a seventh day rest for six days of work – the Sabbath.
By the same token, He wants those who have been under enormous pressures for a considerable period of time to have relief from their burdens every fiftieth year. The return of the land to its original owners (vs.13-17) points to the fact that God retains title to all land. Those on the land are but tenants and not outright owners.
The awareness that we are just custodians of the earth should move us to be more careful in our use of the environment. The Jubilee year was also a time for faith in God’s ability to provide food and an opportunity for the poor and debtors to be given a new beginning in life.
This underscores the fact that the poor were not to be exploited by rich landowners. All are to live simple lives maintaining the discipline of body and spirit.
Practice/Word Application
So what? God remains the Jehovah Jireh, our provider. Will you obey Him and entrust your life wholly into His hands?

Closing Prayer
Knowing that this world is not my own, may I, dear Lord live each day in anticipation of my heavenly home.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Exodus 1:20 ‐ 21
20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty. 21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.
